Where do you find kids places in Jamaica?
Looking for some really cool kids places to hang out? It all depends on how much time you have. Let me tell you, I grew up
on this island and I'm still exploring new places all the time.
There is a lot to learn about Jamaica while you're having fun, whether you are vacationing or you live on the island. There
are lots of wonderful and exciting places with brimming history.
In Kingston, which is the capital of Jamaica, and on the southeast of the island, visit the harbor front. This harbor
is the seventh largest natural harbor in the world.
There is a park where you can relax and watch the ships and other vessels coming in. This harbor is very deep so the
vessels get really close to the shore. Up close these ships
look so humongous.

About Port Royal
Visit Port Royal, it's a 20 minute drive from Kingston. Did you know that Port Royal was once the richest, most evil and
corrupt city in the world?
It was, when it was run by the buccaneers. They were the Port Royal Privateers. The buccaneers were led first by Edward
Mansfield when he died in 1666, Henry Morgan took over.
These Pirates were very brave men. They were notorious and brutal. They got great satisfaction from torturing and
killing their captives. But all that came to an end on
June 7th 1692, when Port Royal was destroyed by an earthquake.
Two thirds of the city sunk beneath the sea.
What’s left of this once very rich city became a quiet little village. It’s now a historical site. On any given day you can
find tourists and locals alike, mesmerized and in awe dew to
the stories of this once great city.

This house better known as "the giddy house" is an historic
building it is at a 35 degree angle, one of the which was left after the 1692 earthquake.

The Hope Gardens
Another kids place is the beautiful Hope Botanical garden formally called the “Hope Gardens.” This 200 acres of gardens
will give you calmness and serenity of the mind. Oh, especially
after learning about the history of Port Royal.
Hope gardens has the largest botanical gardens in the Caribbean. The enormous ground includes amusement parks especially for kids.
Also there are fountains, a lily pond, green houses, a cactus
garden, a zoo with lots of wild life and many more attractions.
Almost daily, bus loads of students from around Jamaica go there on school trips. I can still remember my first trip to the Hope
Gardens back in the fourth grade. Never had I seen such big
and beautiful gardens before, with all the animals and
different species of birds. I cherish that memory, it was awesome.
